Rovers beaten by Burton Albion at the Keepmoat

By Rovers Reporter Zak Armitage.

Doncaster Rovers entertained Burton Albion at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday evening, in what proved to be a disastrous evening for Andy Butler's team who's miserable run of form continued with another defeat.

Both sides started the game positively in South Yorkshire, particularly Rovers who were looking to get back to winning ways after a poor run of form.

The first chance however did go to the visiting Burton, with Joe Powell forcing Ellery Balcombe into an early save in the encounter.

At the other end, it was James Coppinger making an impression for Rovers, assisting chances for both John Bostock and Fejiri Okenabirhie in quick succession.

But the best chance of the opening half did go to the visitors, with Burton defender Thomas Hamer hitting the bar with his header from the centre of the box after a well-worked set-piece- this a let-off for Rovers who would ultimately go into the half time break level.

After the restart Rovers made a lively start to the second half but were hit on the counter-attack by Burton who took the lead when former Huddersfield attacker Lucas Akins fired home from close range.

Shortly afterwards Burton could’ve added a second goal when Australian midfielder Ryan Edwards struck the post, with Kane Hemmings putting the rebound of Edwards strike wide of the post. Another significant let off for Rovers.

But ultimately the floodgates had opened and a second goal did follow for Burton with Thomas Hamer firing past Ellery Balcombe from long range.

Burton added their third in the 78th minute. Blackburn loanee Hayden Carter adding his name to the scoresheet with a neat finish from inside the area as Rovers were punished once again.

After this, the game settled down, without many chances in the closing moments of the game. Another frustrating result for Rovers who slide to twelfth in the League One table, with the playoff chances now very slim.
