The owners of Doncaster Sheffield Airport have announced that flights will cease in a few weeks' time.
Peel say operations will be wound down from the end of October, because 'no tangible proposals’ on the Finningley airport’s future had been put forward.
The company said “Today the Peel Group announces that the Strategic Review at Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has ended.
"Regretfully, no tangible proposals have been received regarding the ownership of the airport or which address the fundamental lack of financial viability. The high fixed costs associated with running a safe, regulated airport, together with recent events materially reducing prospective future aviation income streams, mean that a break-even business plan cannot be identified for the foreseeable future.
In response, the mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard said he was "devastated by today's announcement.
"Most importantly, there are hundreds of people across Doncaster and South Yorkshire who will now be frightened for their future."
